“Interactions” – The 53rd Winter School of the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology
The Winter Schools of the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology have a long-standing tradition of bringing together researchers, ideas, and disciplines. The 53rd Winter School will take place from February 18 to 20, 2026. For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Winter School returns to its off-campus format and will be held in the scenic surroundings of the Beskid Mountains.
The central theme of the School is interactions – both scientific and interpersonal. Participants will have the opportunity to attend scientific presentations and share their own research, highlighting interactions across multiple levels of biological organization, from individual molecules and cells to organisms and their environment.
Four scientific sessions, covering the full spectrum of interaction scales, are planned:
- Molecular Conversations: Decoding the molecular language of life – from structure to systems.
- Cell-to-Cell Interactions: From single cells to collective behavior – communication and cooperation.
- Host–Microbe Interactions: Conflict, coexistence, and communication across biological boundaries.
- Cross-Kingdom and Environmental Interactions: Life in dialogue with its environment – from molecules to ecosystems.
Beyond its scientific programme, the Winter School offers an excellent opportunity to establish new collaborations and strengthen existing ones, while also providing a welcome break from everyday academic routines. The off-campus setting creates space for informal discussion, reflection, and inspiration in a unique natural environment.
